A
library to collect, catalogue, preserve and make
accessible ancient Tibetan and Himalayan religious,
cultural and historical documents
The Songtsen Library Project is a long-held dream
of Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the head of
the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He
has a deep appreciation of Tibetan and Himalayan
history and culture, familiarity with ancient historical
manuscripts such as the Dunhuang documents as well
as an intense desire to catalogue and make accessible
all historical documents of ancient Tibet and the
Himalayas. He is thus constructing an international
research library and campus that will bring together
under one roof as many ancient and rare original
and catalogues of Himalayan documents as possible.
Once brought together, they will then be fully catalogued
and indexed to facilitate research by the world’s
greatest scholars of Tibetan and Himalayan culture
and history. |
